What is a Planar Gantry and Why Will You Care?

Festo has developed the EXCM planar gantry to reduce space and moving mass, eliminate moving motor cables and reduce your motor size and cost. It moves like an Etch A Sketch but uses only one timing belt with a coordinated motion of both motors to get either motion in the X, Y or XY motion in  linear or circular interpolation.
